The Missouri Area Health Education Centers (MAHEC) network is a federal and local partnership that promotes healthcare careers through recruitment, clinical training, education, and community resources, and collaboration. The MAHEC mission and objectives aligh with federal AHEC requirements: to enhance access to quality health care, particularly primary and preventative care, by growing and supporting Missouri's healthcare workforce. These efforts are supported in part with funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Bureau of Health Professions (BHP) and local support. We accomplish our mission by:


  • Creating Academic-Community partnerships
  • Promoting health careers to Missouri youth;
  • Identifying and supporting potential health professionals
  • Promoting high-quality training of health professions students
  • Providing educational resources too increase the retention of practitioners
  • Partnering with state agencies and other organizations to promote overall improvement in community health status


The Missouri AHEC system is comprised of seven regional centers and three program medical schools as well as a host of academic health professions partners. Together, this partnership helps cover the state of Missouri in efforts to increase access to healthcare through academic and community partnerships.
